Here are some of the many disturbing observations about an unnamed country:
• The person responsible for an insurrection rather than being held accountable is a leading contender to be re-elected as leader.
• Assault rifles are a right while health care is a privilege.
• Books about disturbing aspects of history and other subjects are being banned.
• Democracy is eroding as the separation of church and state disappears.
• Truth no longer matters as lying becomes normalized.
• Self-interest replaces sacrifice and care for the community.
• Income and wealth inequality are destabilizing society.
• The free press is regarded as an enemy of the people.
• Science is discounted in favor of blind faith.
• Public education is underfunded.
• Global climate change is largely disregarded.
You could say these qualities describe a typical banana republic or autocracy. Or, you could say this represents the current state of the USA. As our country continues to spiral downward our main adversaries are emboldened. China is perched to invade Taiwan when the time is right and support for Ukraine against Russia sadly is eroding. These are troubling times that demand intelligent politicians that value honesty, integrity, accountability, empathy, sacrifice and statesmanship. Let’s vote such individuals into office for a better future for our grandkids.
