State health data shared Feb. 16 indicates COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations continue to rise in Utah.
As of this week, though, all counties are still showing “low” community COVID-19 transmission levels, based on a current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analysis of positive case counts.

Current sewage data showed elevated amounts of coronavirus in 24 of the 34 sites across the state on Feb. 16, according to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.
Six found enough of the virus that they are on “watch” status, meaning there’s a possibility that those sites could see elevated levels soon. Four show low levels of the virus.
Overall, wastewater trend analyses indicate the amount of COVID-19 has plateaued at 24 of those sites. One site reported decreasing trends of the virus, while seven sites — near Ogden, Layton, Park City, West Jordan, South Jordan and Lehi — reported increasing trends. Two sites reported insufficient data to determine a trend.
Breakdown of updated COVID-19 metrics in Utah, as of Feb. 16:
Vaccine doses administered in the past week/total doses administered • 4,173 / 5,902,252.
Number of Utahns fully vaccinated • 2,079,121 people — or 64% of Utah’s total population — have received both doses of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine series, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Another 472,285 Utahns have received a bivalent booster dose after completing a primary vaccine series — or 14.5% of the population.
Cases reported in the past week • 1,548.
Average cases per day reported in the past week • 221.
Deaths reported in the past week • Three.
Carbon and Davis counties each reported the death of a woman, age 25-44. Salt Lake County also reported one death — a man age 65-84.
Hospitalizations reported this week • As of Thursday, 83 Utahns were hospitalized with COVID-19 — 14 more than the previous week. There were nine patients in intensive care Thursday, four fewer than reported last Thursday.
The seven-day average for people hospitalized with COVID-19 increased from 66 to 83. The seven-day average for new hospital admissions increased about 15% to 17.
Percentage of positive tests • Counting all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual, 12.91% of the tests conducted came back positive, compared with 11.31% at this point last week.
When repeated tests on the same individual are not counted, 17.04% of the tests administered yielded positive results, up from 14.77% the previous week.
Totals to date • 1,085,507 cases; 5,273 deaths; 41,903 hospitalizations.
