Letter: Reporting should focus on how deeply offensive LDS Church’s vandalism of “Nativity” painting is to Catholics

Once again a symbol of the veneration of the Blessed Virgin based on long standing Roman Catholic theology as depicted in a Roman Catholic nativity painting being vandalized by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints repressive propaganda department is sadly addressed as only being only an LDS centric issue, missing the point of the desecration.

BYU’s bookstores selling the image is just as irrelevant, as they are selling something most LDS members have no theological concept of.

It’s just merely “pretty” or “quaint.”

If The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints intentionally vandalized a sacred symbol of Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism or Islam, especially Judaism or Islam, all hell would rightfully break loose from those communities.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is and has been by its mission from the beginning very self righteously hostile to all other religions on earth.

Do you just pander to the LDS community for circulation purposes?

I and many other Roman Catholics around the world that have been made aware of this act are offended by this heavy-handed vandalism of this Roman Catholic symbol of the Virgin Mary and child.

Especially the lightening of the skin tones.

But your paper either cynically misses the point or just cares about the bottom line: In this case you should coordinate this story with the LDS-owned Deseret News.

They are only a block away.

I’d cancel my subscription and urge others to do so but your paper is sadly usually the only voice of objective journalism here on “Joseph Smith’s Island.”
