Letter: ‘God shows no favoritism’? The Bible says otherwise.

Marilyn Marshall’s recent submission to the Opinion section touted the biblical scripture claiming, “God shows no favoritism.” Really? It appears action trumps any such claim in this case.

Not being able to point to the hundreds of scriptural references far exceeding the 300-word limit, I’ll refer to several instances where God absolutely showed indisputable favoritism when dealing with the human race:

  1. God favors Noah while drowning all others including innocent women, children and animals.
  2. Favoring believers over non-believers, God killed many of the Israelites for not believing in “his wondrous works.”
  3. Favoring Moses and Aaron, God killed innocent women, children and animals showing his preference of Israelites over Egyptians.
  4. Again, favoring Moses and his followers, Moses was told that God would destroy all the inhabitants of the lands they passed through.
  5. In a message from God as quoted in Isaiah, He said, “Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger … Every one that is found shall be thrust through … Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes and their wives ravished. Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them … They shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not spare children.”

These few examples should suffice in proving that Marilyn Marshall’s trust in God’s impartiality is suspect at best.
