After 400 or so entries and more than 4,100 total votes in four rounds of balloting, we now have our readers’ choice for the ultimate “dream headline” for General Conference — the news they would most like to see emerge from this weekend’s gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
And the winner is … drumroll, please… no, that’s not right… (angel’s) trumpet fanfare, please:
“We apologize.”
Yep, that simple, declarative statement of contrition topped the other 11 finalists in the last round of balloting, which itself saw more than 850 votes.
The tally was tight, with no entry earning more than 15% of the vote. If this were a ranked choice runoff, we might be tabulating until the millennium.
Finishing second:
Effective immediately: Democrats welcome in LDS Church but only if they do not act on it.
Followed by:
LDS Church to members: Stop paying tithing! Says it has plenty of funds; now’s the time to feed and educate your families.
Thanks to all who participated in this contest in the spirit in which it was intended: a fun engagement exercise in the weeks and days leading up to the Utah-based faith’s twice-yearly global gatherings.
And now, we urge you to follow our continuing coverage of the real thing: the 192nd Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
