Rep. Kelly Miles concedes to opponent Hall in northern Utah House race

A northern Utah lawmaker conceded in his Republican primary, making him the second incumbent to fall in this week’s primary elections.

Rep. Kelly Miles, a member of the Utah House since 2016, conceded to his opponent Katy Hall on Thursday, Hall told The Tribune in an email.

“Rep. Miles did call this evening and issued a concession,” Hall said in an email Thursday. “He offered assistance to help me with the transition and we commended each other on each running clean campaigns. He was very gracious.”

Hall earned 2,924 votes — a little under 62% of total ballots — to Miles’ 1,806, according to the most recent numbers posted by the state. Messages to Miles were not returned as of Friday afternoon.

The totals mean Hall will be the Republican nominee for House District 11, an area that contains areas of Weber and Davis counties, including Hill Air Force Base and Riverdale. Both Weber and Davis counties reported new numbers to the state on Thursday, the state voting website says.

Miles’ loss is the second for incumbents so far in the Utah Legislature.

Sen. Gene Davis, a Democrat who has served in the legislature since 1987, was ousted by newcomer Nate Blouin earlier this week. Blouin accounted for 4,328 votes — over 75% of the ballots — in Senate District 13, according to the most recent vote totals from the state.

Another incumbent Utah Senator may also be in trouble, as Sen. Derek Kitchen was behind primary opponent Jen Plumb by 63 votes at the last tally.
