A new wildfire ignited in Washington County late Thursday, sparked by a vehicle rollover, and the blaze has already burned about 600 acres east of Virgin, Utah.
The Dalton Walsh Fire is currently 0% contained, according to Utah Fire Info, a state-run website that provides updates on active wildfires throughout the state.
It is located about 2.5 miles east from the town of Virgin, but no structures have been damaged and zero injuries have been reported so far.
Evacuations were in place Thursday night at a nearby “tiny homes” site, according to a news release from Utah Fire Info, but no further information was immediately available. Dalton Walsh Road remains closed as firefighters combat the flames.
Crews expect to put out the wildfire by June 13. It’s burning in a combination of roadside fuels and rough terrain, making it difficult for resources to flank all sides of the blaze.
Aerial resources are working the fire throughout Friday in addition to ground resources, but incoming warm weather to the area this weekend will make fire potential “challenging” over the next few shifts, according to a news release.
