Letter: The most lethal and self-destructive force on the planet

The detrimental effects of superfluous growth should be painfully obvious by now, but capitalist autocrats, together with their obtuse minions in government, can see only one way forward ― more growth.

Growth for the sake of taxes, growth for the sake of jobs, growth for the sake of “economic stimulation,” growth for the sake of conspicuous consumption; more people, more taxes, more spending, more waste, until, like a garage full of clutter, we rampantly procreate ourselves out of the space available for our retention, spilling over into places we don’t belong, constantly consuming, perpetually defecating the digested refuse of our ravenous and corpulent appetites, fouling our own nest with the dregs of relentless gratification and perceived “needs” until we can no longer tolerate our own putrescence, spewing forth the wretched remnants of run amok technology and the toxic exhaust of a dirty fuel addiction, as though the planet was one gigantic septic tank for the containment of our collective social excrement.

Ah, humanity! The most lethal and self-destructive force on the planet.
