Man killed in hit-and-run crash in Salt Lake City

A 61-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run early Saturday.

According to a news release from Salt Lake City Police, officers responded to a report of a man on the ground at 415 East 400 South around 1 a.m. on Saturday. First responders found the man in a westbound lane of traffic with critical injuries and attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man died at the scene.

Police said the driver who hit the man did not stop and fled the area, but did not provide a description of the vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle likely has front end damage, according to the release. The man has not been identified pending the notification of his relatives.

The crash was the city’s third traffic-related fatality in 2022. On Jan. 28, a man was hit by two cars near 800 South and 900 West, and another person was struck by a van on Jan. 4 on South State Street.
