The BYU football team is losing another player.
Sophomore quarterback Baylor Romney, brother of wide receiver Gunner Romney, announced Friday on Twitter that he will not return to the Cougars in 2022.
“The past four years have been filled with up and downs but I am thankful for the memories I have made and the person I have become while playing at BYU,” Romney said in a message to fans. “I’m unsure what’s next but it’s time for me to move on and I’m excited for the next challenge.”

Romney redshirted in 2018 and appeared in 16 games over the following three seasons. He amassed 1,787 yards and threw 14 touchdown passes.
Romney joins running back Tyler Allgeier, wide receiver Neil Pau’u and lineman James Empey as players who have publicly said they won’t be back at BYU next year. Allgeier, Pau’u and Empey all announced they will declare for the NFL Draft.
Gunner Romney as of the day before the Independence Bowl still has not announced whether he will be back in 2022.
