Shreveport, La. • The BYU football team will have to win their final game of the season without the services of its starting quarterback.
Baylor Romney will start in place of Jaren Hall for Saturday’s Independence Bowl game against the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
BYUtv first reported the news before the game.
“Jaren Hall is available, if needed,” a team spokesperson said, but Hall would likely only be used in an emergency situation.
Hall reportedly suffered an injury in the team’s win over USC. After the postgame press conference in Los Angeles, he walked off the podium in a noticeable limp.

Hall was seen getting off the team bus before Saturday’s game in a walking boot, per multiple reports.
But Hall was out on the field pregame, in his uniform, warming up with the other quarterbacks. BYUtv reported that Hall would only be used in an emergency situation.
Romney has played in four games in 2021. He’s thrown for 57 yards on 41 completions and has six touchdown passes.
