One of two boys who was struck by a car while trick-or-treating Saturday has died, Taylorsville police announced Monday.
Karl Finch, 13, and another boy were in a crosswalk near 2700 West and 6300 South at about 7 p.m. Saturday when they were both hit Halloween weekend, police said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Police initially said one of the two boys struck was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital in “extremely critical condition.” The other boy suffered critical but survivable injuries, police said.
Karl suffered “a major head trauma,” according to a GoFundMe page set up to help cover his medical expenses. He died early Monday due to his injuries, police confirmed.
The GoFundMe page describes Karl as the oldest of four children, a straight-A student, an accomplished pianist and a “devoted baseball player and fan.”
“This kind hearted, intelligent young man was just beginning to make his mark in the world,” the page states.
More details about the wreck were not immediately available. As of Monday afternoon, the driver had not been arrested and was not facing any charges, police said.
The GoFundMe page had raised more than $21,000 as of Monday afternoon.
