Bones found in Ogden Bay in 2017 identified as missing woman

The Weber County Sheriff’s Office says bones found in Ogden Bay in 2017 belong to a woman who went missing that year.

It took more than two years for investigators to determine the remains belonged to Latoya Wyasket. Court records say she would have been 35 years old when she was last seen in the spring of 2017.

A news release Friday from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office states Wyasket was homeless and known to frequent the area of 18th Street and Childs Avenue. The release did not state how she died.

Detectives are asking anyone who knows how Wyasket disappeared or died to contact them at 801-778-6631 and to reference case 17WC30742.

On September 27, 2017, people moving cattle in a waterfowl management area west of Hooper discovered a decomposing body. Detectives couldn’t even tell if the remains were male or female.

The state medical examiner eventually determined the bones belonged to a female between the ages of 28 and 48. Detectives began scouring reports of missing women. The FBI also assisted.

The remains were identified as belonging to Wyasket earlier this month, according to the news release.
