Utes baseball coach suspended for two weeks for ‘a personnel matter’

University of Utah baseball coach Gary Henderson won’t be on the sidelines for a few games.

The university announced Wednesday that Henderson has been suspended for two weeks without pay. A university statement said the suspension was due to “a personnel matter” without going into further detail.

Assistant coach Todd Guilliams will be at the helm on an interim basis for the Utes, who will play nine games in the span of the next two weeks. One of those is a home game Tuesday against BYU at Smith’s Ballpark.

The Utes have an 18-13-1 record so far this season, but are just 5-7 in Pac-12 play and 7-6 at home. Last year, the team went 17-33 overall.

Henderson has been the coach at Utah since June of 2021 after serving as the associate head coach in the previous two seasons. He succeeded Bill Kinneberg, who retired last May after 18 years leading the Utes.
