July Fourth parade vehicle hits 12-year-old girl in Kaysville

Police in Kaysville said Monday that a 12-year-old girl was critically injured after a car hit her during an Independence Day parade.

City officials stopped the parade due to what they described as a medical emergency, according to a Facebook post from the Kaysville Fire Department.

Shortly afterward, the Kaysville Police Department reported in a separate Facebook post that a parade vehicle hit the girl near 175 S. Main. The department said the child was taken to a hospital, and the girl was last known to be in critical condition.

The child’s name has not been released.

Police said the site would be closed for several hours while they investigate. Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area.

“This is a tragic event and our hearts go out to the child’s family,” the department said in the Facebook post. “We will continue to release updates as we gather further information.”
