As a family, we find the decision by the state of Utah to revoke the license of the Maple Lake Academy devastating. We could not be more pleased with the care and help our daughter has received at Maple Lake. If the school is closed, it will cause our daughter and our family irreparable harm.
Our daughter’s fall there was unfortunate, but was nothing unusual among active teenagers. To use it as a pretext to close such a vital facility is unconscionable.
The administration could not have been more concerned, nor could they have kept us better informed. We were kept fully apprised at every step along the way and consulted on her care. We cannot believe that the state made no effort to hear our views on this incident and the excellent care our daughter has received.
It is our understanding that certain “political winds” are blowing in Utah and that Maple Lake’s closure may come as a result. If so, it is unconscionable. We love our daughter and have gone to great lengths to seek proper treatment for her. The state is in no position to unilaterally undermine our judgement as parents.
