14-year-old boy driving dirt bike strikes, kills pedestrian in Eagle Mountain

A 14-year-old boy driving a dirt bike struck and killed a pedestrian in Eagle Mountain Friday night.

Authorities said the crash took place at the intersection of Porters Crossing Parkway and North Evans Ranch Drive at about 4:55 p.m. The boy allegedly ran through a stop sign before he hit a 19-year-old man at a crosswalk.

The man has since died from his injuries, police said. The driver was hospitalized in serious condition but is expected to survive.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the motorcycle flew 200 feet or more after the impact, and the victim was thrown 50-60 feet from the crosswalk. The dirt bike was not street legal and police believe speed was a factor in the crash, he said.

Information on the identities of the two involved was not immediately available. The crash is under investigation.
