The University of Utah women’s basketball team beat Washington State 72-66 on Sunday at the Huntsman Center for its third straight victory.
Brynna Maxwell led Utah (13-7, 4-4 Pac-12) with 12 points, while Gianna Kneepkens, Dasia Young and Peyton McFarland added nine each. Kelsey Rees grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds.
In a stretch starting in the first quarter and continuing into the second, Washington State went 10 minutes without making a field goal.
The Utes led 58-39 after the third quarter before Washington State (14-7, 6-4 Pac-12) narrowed the gap in the fourth.
Utah completed a sweep of the Washington schools, after beating the University of Washington on Friday.
“This was a great win. I am really proud of our team,” Utah coach Lynne Roberts said. “Washington State is a very good team. They returned all five starters from the NCAA Tournament last year. They have a ton of experience and a lot of talent. They are a very well-coached team.”
Johanna Teder led the Cougars with 16 points, Charlisse Leger-Walker scored 15, and Bella Murekatete added 12.
The Utes were 9 of 21 from 3-point range, hitting at least nine 3-pointers for the 14th time this season. Utah is 55-21 in games when making eight or more 3-pointers in the Roberts era.
Utah hosts Southern California on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
