Letter: President Trump’s war powers should be limited

Many thanks to Sen. Mike Lee, who reached across the aisle to co-sponsor the Udall-Kaine amendment, which would have prohibited the Pentagon using any funding to attack Iran without congressional approval.

Unfortunately, the amendment failed with 50 votes in favor (60 votes were required).

Sadly, Sen. Mitt Romney not only voted against the Udall-Kaine amendment, but also sponsored his own amendment to the annual defense funding bill, which did pass. Romney’s amendment clarified that funds could definitely be spent by President Donald Trump to make war without further congressional approval.

Mr. Romney, are you really comfortable giving Donald Trump (“the stable genius”) that kind of decision-making power?
