Clementine, a baby zebra, will make her debut this week at Utah’s Hogle Zoo

A baby zebra born last week at Utah’s Hogle Zoo will make her first public appearance at the zoo on Tuesday.

Clementine was born Tuesday, Oct. 23, weighing in at 85 pounds, zoo officials said Monday.

It’s the third Hartmann’s Mountain zebra born at Hogle Zoo, and the second born to Zoe, who gave birth to Poppy last year. Both were sired by Ziggy, who also was the father of Zibby, who was born to a different mother in June.

“Clementine has no fear,” Melissa Farr, lead keeper of Hogle’s African Savanna section, said in a statement. “The other foals stayed pretty close to the barn on their first day on Savanna. But Clementine ran all the way to the west end right near the lions. She’s so brave and loves to explore.”

Clementine is named after a zoo donor.

Zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday. On Thursday, the zoo switches to its winter hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day (except Christmas and New Year’s Day).

Admission is $16.95 for adults, $14.95 for seniors (65 and up), $12.95 for children 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and younger. Hogle Zoo is located at 2600 Sunnyside Ave., Salt Lake City, at the mouth of Emigration Canyon.
